Are students addicted to their phones?

For many students\kids depend on social to take away boredom chat with friends share cool stuff online and a number of other things but are our brains snatching our youth?

Smartphones can sometimes be just like a drug and when taken people will often depend on more.Just like drugs our smartphones and the things that we are exposed to on these devices interact with the limbic system,The limbic system is responsible for feel good emotions and our brain rewards us when these endorphins are released leaving us wanting more and creating a cycle which can really explain why we are so addicted to our phones.Phones and other devices such as computers can make teens and kids self conscious if they are exposed to the wrong things on social media this can sometimes are unhealthy  relationships with social media and create unhealthy standards that we think we have to live up to.If young children are exposed to the wrong things they may grow up to believe they that have to live up to society's standards

Discovering electricity

Discovering electricity

One of the most famous and legendary people named Benjamin Franklin attached a long wire to one end of a kite that he mad from silk,He proved that storm clouds carried electricity and lightning was nothing but a heavily charged spark of electricity.Sorry to burst your bubble but he didn't actually discover electricity he only wanted to prove that storm clouds and lightning was a form of electricity

The people to encounter a form of electricity. They discovered static electricity
over 2,600 years ago around 600 BC. The Greeks did not know they had discovered static electricity, but they observed that rubbing fossilized tree resin, or amber, with animal fur made the resin attract dried grassThe first production of electricity was only first presented in 1600s people made things to create friction and generate sparks, Alessandro Volta then started to developed the first battery in 1800s

Thomas eddison
Eddison was the first person to invent a light bulb which is todays most used form of electricity in our households So Thomas Addison wasn't actually the first to experiment with a light bulb or any type of electrical bulbs,Humphry davy was one of the first people to invent electric light in 1802,He decided to connected his wire to his batteries and a piece of carbon.

Although there have been plenty of people over the years saying that different people invented the light bulb we may never know,So who actually created electricity?

Jam drop biscuits

Jam drops,Week 3 practical

Image result for what are jam drops

Teamwork aspects
Each person in the group had set task that they had to do,For example I had to do dishes and Jordyn was on drying duties

Teamwork skills
I think we all did a good job at working together in a team and that we all balance each other,We all worked together in a team and all worked efficiently and at getting ingredients and prepping the jam drops

Team improvements and things to work on
I don't necessarily think that our group had anything to work on really,We did have times where we would be standing around and not having anything to do because our cooking and cleaning was done.Thats all we had to work on because in my opinion we worked fast and efficiently to get thing done

Staff feedback
The staff said that our biscuits were the right amount of sweetness and that the jam nicely attenuated the the biscuit,Staff however did try the biscuit without the jam and said it needed more flavour.

Next steps and initiate to be used
one of our main goals was to make sure that everything was done fast, efficiently I think we did achieve that.I think that one of our next steps could be to spread out the jobs,Because I mostly stayed on dishes the whole lesson and didn't really get to prepare the biscuits and I think that next time we could switch jobs so everyone get a turn at doing everything

Measuring and accuracy
believe we did read the recipe right and made no mistakes,All ingredients were measured precisely,Although when we got to putting jam in the centre of the cookie we put a little bit too much causing the jam to overflow out of the hole of the cookie.

Personal feedback
In my opinion the biscuits balanced out the jam nicely,Next time I would wait for them to cool to become more crisp because they were too warm for me personally

Blood and bone chapters

Blood and bone chapters

Chapter 36,Zelie

“Those are father’s words, Inan. His decisions. Not yours. We are our own people. We make our own choices.”can’t stop magic, Orïsha will fall.”
His eyes return to me, and I tighten my grip on my staff. Try it, I want to bark

Sometimes in life people are going to have different opinions and choices to you.An example of this could be if you don't like the way somebody sings,Its okay to have different opinions and choices on things

Chapter 49 – Amari
Strike, Amari.
Father’s voice rings in my head, but it’s not his strength I need.
Be brave, Amari. Binta soothes instead.
Be the Lionaire.
King Saran sees the ability to hurt others as strength. Amari has realized that strength can mean something else, as she learned from Binta. I believe strength comes from being strong enough to do what is right.

Something that i take away from this quote is that doing whats right and believing in your morals is what you call strength,And to have strength is to what is right

Chapter 52 – Amari
“I’ll prove myself to you, to all of you,” Inan declares. “You’re on the right side of this. My only desire is to stand there as well.”
“Good.” I lean forward to hug him, holding on to his promise.
But when his hands wrap around my back, all I can think of are how his fingers are resting just above my scars.

This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is
Do you trust Inan? Does he deserve a second chance?
Do people in real life deserve second chances?

I don't really trust trust Inan but i do think since he's trying to prove himself it makes me start to gain trust in him

I think that in real life people do deserve second chance but it completely depends on the situation you have with that person

Chapter 59 – Zélie
“How will me coming back to Lagos solve any of that?” I ask. “As we speak, your father calls for my head!”
“My father’s scared.” Inan shakes his head. “He’s misguided, but his fear is justified. All the monarchy’s ever seen is the destruction maji can bring. They’ve never experienced anything like this.” He gestures to the camp, face alight with so much hope his smile practically glows in the darkness. “Zulaikha created this in one moon, and there are already more diviners in Lagos than anywhere else in Orïsha. Just imagine what we could accomplish with the resources of the monarchy behind us.”
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is

For some reason I don't really trust nan and I feel like he is trying to set up zellie up in a trap.He might be saying he has genuine feelings for her ,when really he doesn't He might be just trying to get the monarchy behind him so he can become a king or a ruler ,However he is quite hopeful and wants only the best for his people and zellie so I'm still debating on weather I trust him or not,Emotions play a big part part in feelings that you have for a person.someone can be persuaded very easily if a certain emotions are presented and they can make you do crazy things

power of one essay

“The power of one” Is one of the most powerful movies made,It showcases the Ill treatment and discrimination that was forced upon the black community during the time of apartheid.John avildsen (The director of the power of one) used techniques in his movie the following techniques are. Diegetic and non diegetic sound,High angel,Tracking shot,Dialogue and many others.

Firstly,The tracking shot is one of the most important film techniques in this scene it showcases a number of different techniques in it like non diegetic sound. The tracking shot in this scene also shows us everything going on in the background because p.k is being followed and tracked by the camera. As p.k is running through the village the camera moves with him and follows him around this is when the tracking shot is presented in this scene. John avildsen’s purpose was to follow p.k with the tracking shot. P.k would change direction a lot resulting in leaving the camera frame often. The tracking shot may have been used because Avildsen would have wanted the audience to see the surrounding\background and the poor conditions people had to go through. The tracking shot was used really well to present the living conditions people were in,The tracking shot moved with p.k therefore displaying everything going on behind and around him.The tracking shot that was used throughout this scene made sure the audience could see what was happening while p.k went on a run. Avildsen did a great job at this film technique i believe he captured everything very well

The tracking shot that was used throughout this scene made sure the audience could see what was happening while p.k went on a run.Avildsen did a great job at this film technique i believe he captured everything very well.Diegetic sound is presented when p.k is talking (dialogue) And other background noise like faint talking,Cars,Banging and crashing ect.The non diegetic sound is heard when casual music softly plays in the background.John avildsen main purpose may have been to create a comforting atmosphere for the audience to show us what was going on in the background. The music (Non DIegetic) Mixed with Talking and what we see in the background gives us a relieving feeling.I think that the diegetic and non diegetic sound created a calm feel in the scene. Not only was the audience comforted with a calm\casual feeling we are also shown what is happening beyond p.k talking .Diegetic and non diegetic sound was shown smartly in this scene,Creating an ordinary atmosphere with music (non diegetic sound) And the other background talking, cars ect (diegetic)They both merged well together creating a calm environment while p.k was running. Both the diegetic and non diegetic sounds in this scene help the audience perceive what was happening in the background easily

Thirdly,A high angel is shown just before the scene ends.It has p.k’s back facing us as he runs and the camera stops moving and then goes on a high angel letting us see what is going on in his surroundings. P.k runs further away from the camera resulting in it stopping and transitioning upward therefore filming at a high angel. The Effect it should of had on the audience should have been a frightening one. After all seeing how poorly people were treated it should effect you.Having the camera transition into a high angel made sure we seen everything as p.k ran away in the village. The camera stopped at the right place to capture all of the important things happening in the moment

lastly,In this scene the director john avildsen decided to use dialogue to help us hear what’s going on verbally. The director not only wanted us to know about the important things in the scene visually but also verbally.John avildsen’s main purpose would have been help us convey information that he felt needed to be known by the audience.Gideon duma explains his living conditions using dialogue and teaches us what he goes through. The main effect would of been to inform us verbally about how Gideon himself and his fellow people are treated Gideon duma explains his living conditions using dialogue and teaches us what he goes through. The main effect would of been to inform us verbally about how Gideon himself and his fellow people are treated Dialogue is an important aspect in this scene because without it we probably wouldn't know what would be going on.This film aspect is crucial in a movie because it helps the audience convey the story and what the characters are saying

in conclusion what the Afrikaners and people in generalhad to go through during the time of the apartheid. The film techniques were all chosen carefully and they all played a big roll in depicting the things going on in the movie for the audience.John avildsen’s movie showed a small glimpse of how poorly the people were treated and he really educated me about the apartheid with his wise choice of film techniques.

What Am I Proud of
I'm proud of how far i came from the first time we started watching the movie,I think that i did a good job explaining the film techniques

What can I do (Specifically) to Improve next time.
Memory -- fantastic effort on this! You worked steadily throughout the assessment period, and I have noted your great work ethic. Ka rawe! To improve, run your essay through some proofreading tools like Grammarly.com and Read&Write for Google. When you write “the director wanted to convey important information”, be specific. What information, exactly?

What is one thing I enjoyed learning about film
I enjoyed the way that john avildsen portrayed the idea of the apartheid,With his film techniques he made sure that a message got out to his audience.
i found it challenging taking in the idea that people were actually treated like that and it was hard for me to accept what people did because they were a different race

What is one thing I found challenging about learning about film?
i found it challenging taking in the idea that people were actually treated like that and it was hard for me to accept what people did because they were a different race

What is one thing I found useful/I will use next time I write an essay?
The little boxes that i used to write my essay made it easier for me to write because everything was split and spread out for me im wondering if john avildsen used certain angels to show the audience everything or if wasnt done on purpose

What is one thing I am wondering about to do with writing about Visual Texts?
im wondering if john avildsen used certain angels to show the audience everything or if wasnt done on purpose
