Textiles term 2 reflection

Textiles term 2 reflection

What have I been working on this term?
This term I have been working on a fox pillow and this is it

What was something that I found challenging in these past 2 terms
in theses past two terms I having been working on how to properly read the paper templates that I had to use to cut out my materials. It was a little bit challenging because it was something that I had never worked with before it was all new but I earned what to do. I also had not used a sewing machine in a while so getting this to work was quite a challenge but I quickly started to get the hang of things.Around the last couple of lesson me and a couple other people were having trouble with putting a zipper on the back it wasn't that easy lining up two materials (the back of the pillow)and getting the zipper on the materials. I ended up having to unpick a lot of stitching because I wasn't actually sewing the zipper on the material I was only sewing on the zipper

What was something that I have learnt\enjoyed doing in textiles these past two terms
Something that I have enjoyed doing this term is not only making my pillow but I learnt different things along my sewing journey in this class.Something that I had never used before was glue paper which went sticky when heat was compressed onto it this helped me when i was putting on my face nose eyes ect. I learnt how to read commercials patterns in this class and also how to use the paper template that guided me what I had to cut out

what was my main focus/ goals in textiles
My main focus was basically to get all of my work finished to a high standard.I also was aiming to make sure that if I got stuck on anything that I would ask the teacher instead of not knowing what to do

Why did you decide make what you made in textiles and how does it benefit you
I decided to make my fox pillow mainly because I wanted to showcase my sewing skills by making this pillow,The instructions for this pillow were a lot different compared to my usual lessons that I used to follow in year 7 and 8.I wanted to try something new and I wanted to showcase my work differently than usual. This pillow does benefit me because its going to look great and a decoration on my bed.I'm also looking at giving it to a family member of mines  as a gift

Do you think that you have accomplished your goals or achieved your focus in this class? why?
I feel that I have put my work up to a high standard and I think that I most definitely have achieved this because I am proud of my work.Asking for help from the teacher wasn't as needed because I had set instructions that I could follow. Also there were a bunch of other people in my class that knew what to do so that I didn't get stuck.I did have to ask the teacher a couple time because I might have been doing the wrong stitching or there was something that the instructions didn't explain properly

Reflection on art

Reflection on art

Where is your focal point? Why did you choose it and decide to put it where it is?
I feel that my focal point is the menu because of the way the colours contrast with the black board behind it.It stands out therefore making it the main focal point in my magazine page

How are shapes and lines leading you to your focal point?
I think the size of the images that i have used are smaller than my focal point so it makes the focal point look bigger and it stands out more. Also the placement of where the images are helps the focal point become more noticeable

why did you choose the colours

The colour range that i was looking for was light and bright colours  in my images. I decided to use light coloured pictures that would make the dark coloured focal point stand out.

Does your text reflect the hierarchy rule? How?
The Hornby high kai text is white so it gives it importance because it stands out,Also it is placed in the middle so it is the first thing that your attention is drawn to

How does you page link with the other members in your group
This is my buddies magazine page and the way that it links with my group is that it is related to kai (food) that we eat at Hornby high school

I would say that at the start of the term i was around  a 3 -
(Relation) i would now say that i have improved around a 5- Original thought

Metal carbonate and acid

Metal carbonate n acid

Aim:To show that carbon dioxide gas is produced when metal carbonate reacts with acid

Method:
1.Light your Bunsen burner
2.Add a pea sized amount of the metal carbonate into one of the boiling tubes.
3.Place the boiling tube into a test rack.Ensure you have the bung and delivery tube ready
4.Add 5ml of acid to the boiling tube and quickly insert the bung and delivery tube into the mouth of the boiling tube
5.Holding the other boiling tube with your rings,Capture the gas produced as shown in the diagram below                                                                                                                                                         6.When you think the tube is full,Your lab partner should light a wooden splint
7.Carefully remove the boiling tube from under the delivery tube,Taking care to keep it facing upright
8.insert the burning splint into the mouth of the test tube.

Discussion:We discussed what we thought was going to happen to the wooden splint once it went into the liquids

Results: The test tube went cloudy once the wooden splint went into the acid,When the flame went out straight away that’s how we knew that carbon dioxide was present

Conclusion:
In conclusion this experiment was good to see how carbon dioxide is produced when metal carbonate reacts with acid

Metals and oxygen

Metal n oxygen

Aim:To make metal oxide and observe the difference in properties of the product compared to the reactants

Method:
 1. Light the Bunsen burner
2.Hold your piece of magnesium in the scissor tongs.Ensure you are holding onto the very tip of the magnesium
 3. place the other end of the magnesium into the Bunsen flame at the top of the very tip of the magnesium.
4.When the magnesium beings to burn,Do not look directly at it,As the light emitted can permanently damage your eyes

Discussion:We discussed what would happen to the piece of metal once heated up on a hot flame

Results: The results were that the strip of magnesium would heat up when heat was conducted to it.The energy from the heat would conduct a light that sparked from the magnesium

Conclusion In conclusion the heat and energy that was conducted from the Bunsen burner made the strip of magnesium hot therefore making it spark up
